VOTE BILL MCANDREW

Current issues at the Public School Board

It is hard to understand why voters hesitate to vote for new Trustees with new ideas, especially when the alternative is to vote for long time incumbents who haven’t had a single good idea in the last four years.

Under the watch of the current Trustees, Cambridge students are unfairly treated by the Board’s busing policy, the Board holds closed meetings contrary to the Education Act, and Trustees voted to tear down a Heritage School without a public meeting.

I believe:

·       in thoughtful policies, implemented fairly

·       in open processes and excellent communication with parents

·       in protecting our heritage, and

·       in conducting the public’s business in public.

For EVERY Student –
An Excellent Education

CHANGE IS GOOD.

VOTE BILL MCANDREW.

The Public School Board must continue and increase its efforts to provide an excellent academic education.

I strongly believe that we must offer “For EVERY Student – An Excellent Education.”

I seek your vote.  I am running for the office of Public School Trustee - Cambridge and North Dumfries.  If elected, I will work very diligently to ensure that An Excellent Education becomes a reality.

To ensure that every student receives an excellent education, we must have a strong and consistent focus on several key areas.

            ·      Higher graduation rates and achievement levels.  Schools must be student-
                   focused and parent-friendly.

·      Excellent programing for special education students, english as a second language students and students from disadvantaged backgrounds.

·       Improved learning environments.  Students learn when they are valued and respected and are taught in school facilities that are not too hot, not too cold and well maintained.  Heritage schools should be preserved.

·      Better student safety.  Renewed focus is necessary on all aspects of school safety including anti-bullying, safe routes to school and school security.

·       Increased parental involvement.  The WRDSB needs to start listening more toparents’ ideas and concerns whether presented by individual parents or school councils.

·       Greater respect for educators.  Our teachers, educational assistants and school administrators work hard for our students and deserve our community’s support.

We must ensure that struggling students be supported at all times whether they be special needs students such as those with autistic spectrum disorder, students for whom school seems to bring out questionable behaviour and, increasingly, students who struggle just because they are male.
